You invested in a custom leather belt—now what? Like all leather goods, it’ll last for years if you give it a little care. We use full-grain cowhide leather, which is incredibly durable, but still benefits from basic maintenance. Here’s how to keep your belt looking its best:
1. Keep it dry:
If your belt gets wet, wipe it off and let it air dry naturally. Never use direct heat—this can cause the leather to dry out and crack.
2. Store it right:
Roll it loosely or hang it up. Folding it sharply can create unnecessary creases or weaken the leather over time.
3. Condition occasionally:
Use a high-quality leather conditioner every few months. This keeps the leather soft, prevents drying, and enhances the rich patina that full-grain leather develops over time.
4. Clean it gently:
For dust or surface dirt, use a dry cloth. For mild stains, a damp cloth with a small amount of leather cleaner works well. Always test cleaners on a small hidden section first.
All Gavere Leather belts are engraved by hand. That means the design will last, but it’s still smart to avoid scrubbing the engraved areas too harshly. With the right care, your belt will stay comfortable, stylish, and functional for decades. And if you’re unsure what products to use, just reach out. We’re happy to make recommendations.
