3 Tips for Finding the Right Belt

Although some people’s wardrobes include a sizable rotation of belts, many of us only have one or two. Furthermore, we tend to go long periods without replacing them. As such, when it finally comes time to look for a new belt, many people have no idea where to start. Fortunately, finding the right belt for your purposes shouldn’t prove difficult or time-consuming — provided, of course, you’re armed with the following tips.

  1. Take a Few Measurements

The last thing you want is a belt that’s too small or too large. To ensure that you wind up with one that perfectly conforms to your waistline; take care to measure your current belt before you start shopping. Lay belt on flat surface and measure from tip end of the buckle to the hole currently being used.

  1. Consider Buckle Size

The rules of fashion dictate that the size of a belt buckle is directly proportionate to how formal a belt is. This is particularly true in the case of belt buckles for men. So, if you’re in the market for a formal or corporate-casual belt, opt for belts with smaller buckles. Conversely, if a casual-wear belt is what you’re after, don’t be afraid to go big for your belt buckles for men.

  1. Consider Material Type

The type of material of which a belt is composed often determines how long it will last. Cloth belts, for example, don’t tend to last for more than a year or two, whereas leather belts can last for more than a decade if properly cared for.

After spending years wearing the same belt, finding the perfect replacement is liable to seem daunting. Luckily, putting the pointers discussed above to good use can make the selection process a piece of cake. The next time you find yourself in need of a new belt, remember to take some measurements of your previous belt and carefully consider the best type of belt material and buckle for your purposes.
